Horchata.  Hmmm.  I can still remember the first time this sweet drink flowed across my tongue.  It was love at first taste.  Its savoring flavor is similar to a blend of tapioca pudding and cinnamon, although it is smooth in texture.  My son loves this drink too.  It’s his favorite “yummy to the tummy” Mexican drink.  This is a drink I always order if it’s on the menu, although, it is rare for me to find this in most Mexican restaurants.  The average 12 ounce drink has approximately 180 calories.  It is worth every one.  Who really cares about calories when you’re eating Mexican food?  If you feel guilty, do a round of insanity!  Horchata is made from a combination of grains (usually rice), nuts, sugar and cinnamon.  If you have a nut allergy, I would pass on this drink just to be safe.  This drink is normally vegan and lactose intolerant friendly since there is no milk in it.  I would ask before ordering though.  It’s just my cautious vegetarian way I guess.  You never know when someone will use a milk product.
